Develop biological understanding across molecules, cells, organisms, and ecosystems, and chemical understanding of structure, bonding, and reactivity. Integrate the nature of science, quantitative reasoning, and analysis of evidence.
Teach assigned Secondary Science classes using the approved curriculum and standards. Develop foundational knowledge across relevant scientific disciplines, scientific vocabulary, experimental design, measurement, data interpretation, and evidence-based explanations, preparing students for advanced science study.
Use formative and summative assessment to monitor progress and give useful feedback. Apply school and IB assessment expectations accurately, prepare students for examinations, maintain records and the approved online gradebook, and provide evidence-based predicted grades when required.
Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including students developing English proficiency. Support academic language, student agency, and the DAS 5Cs; collaborate with student support staff to implement agreed plans.
Plan and supervise safe laboratory and field investigations. Assess risks, teach safe procedures, check apparatus, and manage chemicals, biological materials, protective equipment, storage, and waste disposal under school procedures. Maintain inventories and coordinate resources with school leadership and laboratory support staff where available; address ethical and environmental considerations.
Guide students through scientific investigations and internal assessment in DP Biology and DP Chemistry within IB rules for feedback, academic integrity, and authentication. Teach research design, data analysis, conclusions, and evaluation; apply assessment criteria consistently and coordinate deadlines, moderation, and submissions with the DP Coordinator.
Contribute to the collaborative sciences project and connections with Theory of Knowledge, including ethical, environmental, and societal applications of science. Supervise relevant extended essays and undertake advisory or other DP responsibilities when assigned and within appropriate subject expertise.
Students and school culture

Contribute to school improvement, collaborative planning, and the Major Learning Plan. Model professionalism, integrity, reliability, and openness to feedback.
Lead two sessions of after-school activity (one hour per week for 8-10 weeks), such as a science club, environmental project, or STEM activity. Attend required professional development days, sports days, special events, and parent-teacher conferences, and participate in assigned school events after school or on weekends. Carry out agreed advisory, service, and supervision duties.
Maintain organized classrooms and laboratory spaces, accurate records, and responsible use of resources. Follow the Professional Handbook, Code of Conduct, academic integrity expectations, and agreed school procedures.
Qualifications and experience
A bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field and a recognized secondary teaching qualification, with the subject expertise needed to teach both DP Biology and DP Chemistry.
