Dar Essalam American School (DAS) is an independent, English-medium, Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 international school in Rabat, Morocco, providing a high-quality education to a diverse student body. The school has partnered with Lumo Education and International Schools Services (ISS) to develop an innovative curriculum that draws from the best of Finnish and American pedagogy to deliver a student-centered, enriching, and challenging program that prepares students for lifelong success.
DAS is seeking a qualified and passionate Assistant Principal for the Elementary School. The Assistant Principal collaborates with the Principal to provide effective leadership with a strong emphasis on pedagogical and instructional support to ensure a high-quality educational experience for students. This role focuses on enhancing teaching practices, supporting staff development, and fostering student well-being while cultivating a positive and inclusive school culture. The Assistant Principal is pivotal in improving instructional outcomes, promoting innovative teaching strategies, and maintaining a safe, engaging, and dynamic learning environment through close collaboration with teachers and academic teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Principal in planning and managing daily school operations, including timetables, events, and teacher assignments.
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure the delivery of high-quality lessons, assessments, and instructional strategies.
- Mentor and coach teachers by providing constructive feedback, facilitating professional development, and modeling best practices to strengthen pedagogical expertise and instructional effectiveness.
- Support teachers in curriculum planning, lesson design, and assessment development to ensure alignment with instructional goals.
- Collaborate with teachers to implement innovative teaching strategies and adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, collaborating with the Principal and support teams to implement interventions and enrichment programs.
- Build strong relationships with parents by addressing concerns, facilitating conferences, and maintaining effective communication.
- Support the Principal in enforcing school policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistency and fairness.
- Assist in organizing clubs, activities, and school-wide events that enrich the student experience.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Support teachers in delivering high-quality instruction by providing feedback, facilitating professional development, and promoting innovative teaching practices.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs), tailoring instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Ensure classrooms and shared spaces are well-maintained to create a conducive learning environment.
- Analyze student performance data to identify trends, guide curriculum planning, and inform targeted instructional interventions.
- Organize events such as field trips, assemblies, and special programs that enhance instructional objectives and student engagement.
- Monitor student attendance and discipline to align with policies and promote academic engagement.
- Serve as a liaison between teachers, parents, and leadership to ensure cohesive communication and alignment with the school’s pedagogical goals.
- Participate in marketing and community engagement efforts to showcase the school’s instructional strengths and achievements.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- A Master’s Degree in Education or a related field, with a credential in educational administration or leadership.
- At least 3 years of teaching experience, with a proven track record of leadership or coordination in instructional and curriculum development.
- Experience with the Finnish model of academic programs.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support teachers in implementing effective pedagogical strategies and innovative instructional practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in diverse, multicultural educational settings, focusing on supporting equitable and inclusive instructional practices.
- Expertise in analyzing and leveraging student performance data to inform curriculum adjustments and improve instructional outcomes.
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple instructional initiatives in a dynamic school environment.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Credential in educational administration or leadership.
- Proficiency in French and/or Arabic.
- Experience in coaching teachers and organizing professional development programs.
- Experience in international education.
- Familiarity with technology integration in education.
- Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the Principal in implementing child protection policies to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Assist in identifying and addressing health and safety risks within the school.
- Actively participate in all school events, including parent-teacher conferences, professional development days, and extracurricular activities, even if held outside of regular school hours.
